Respecting the home’s original character

A key priority throughout the build was protecting the decorative features that give the home its 1920s charm. The existing ground floor gables were carefully retained and restored, forming an important visual link to the home’s history.

The new second storey was designed to mirror these existing gables, ensuring the addition felt like a natural extension of the original architecture rather than a modern contrast.

A full second storey rebuild

The project also included a complete rebuild of the 110m² second storey, providing additional bedrooms and living space while maintaining the scale and proportion of the original home.

By replicating the architectural forms of the existing gables, the new level complements the original structure and preserves the home’s timeless street presence.

Creating space for modern family living

The 70m² ground floor extension significantly expanded the kitchen and living areas, opening the home up for modern living and entertaining. The new layout provides a seamless connection between spaces, creating a functional hub for everyday family life.

Careful attention was paid to how the new areas integrate with the existing home, ensuring a natural flow between old and new.

Preserving and replicating period details

Maintaining the character of the home was an important part of the project. Key interior features were carefully protected, including the existing living room detailing and the original hallway archway.

To ensure consistency throughout the renovation, the existing cornices were replicated across the ground floor and new ceiling roses were installed to suit traditional chandeliers. These details help maintain the home’s classic aesthetic while allowing the new spaces to feel cohesive with the original design.
